LetterboxdNick Park's Creature Comforts and The Wrong Trousers both screened at the very first Brief Encounters in 1995. Based at Bristol's Aardman Animations, Park was closely connected to the festival from the start, serving as a patron in its early years and judging its photo-storyboard competition, later DepicT!, in 1997.
He was in Bristol again in 2005 for a Filmmaker Focus in conversation with Aardman's Kieran Argo, and in 2012 for an Aardman in Conversation event with Peter Lord and David Sproxton, interviewed by Francine Stock. A Close Shave screened in 1998, A Matter of Loaf and Death in 2009, and Plainsong in 2012. Park has won four Academy Awards.
