Michael Dudok de Wit's Father and Daughter screened at Animated Encounters 2001, fresh from winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Short. The Monk and the Fish followed at the 2002 edition, and Dudok de Wit was in Bristol in 2017 for Desert Island Flicks and a session on the making of The Red Turtle, his feature debut co-produced with Studio Ghibli.
Father and Daughter screened again at the 30th edition in 2025, twenty-four years after it first played in Bristol. A film and a festival that have grown older together.
