"Joyful, loving, complex" - Screen AnarchyBased on a true story, the film follows Vlad, a talented harmonica player who arrived in Bristol in the 1990s after fleeing the conflict in Yugoslavia. Now working as a counsellor in the city, Vlad has woven his roots and love for Balkan music into Bristol's cultural fabric by forming a band with his friends from work. Set against Bristol's vibrant music scene, the band strives for success, but as they do, Vlad is revisited by the traumas of his past life. His carefully rebuilt world in his adopted Bristol home starts to fracture, with the hardest hit being his only daughter Maria, the most important person in his life. We're delighted to present Thea Gajic's SURVIVING EARTH to Bristol audiences for the first time, as part of our Go West programming strand spotlighting stories from Bristol and the South West. We will be joined by Thea and producer Sophie Reynolds for a Q&A after the film.Letterboxd: Surviving Earth.
