This short documentary offers rich visual coverage of the biography of Anthony Bloom, the 82-year-old Archbishop of the Russian Orthodox Church. But it departs from the conventions of the bio-pic by using interviews with the Archbishop in which he reflects and meditates exclusively on the subject of death. Thus the film confronts not the dignitary but the inner man. In reflecting on his encounters with death, Anthony conveys a sense of intense spiritual energy, and the viewer is offered a challenging insight into one man's way of dealing with a universal condition.
