LetterboxdAneil Karia's Farrington screened at Encounters 2008. Beat, starring Ben Whishaw, won the European New Talent award at Encounters 2013, and Work followed at Encounters 2017. In 2022, his short The Long Goodbye, with Riz Ahmed, won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. Fourteen years between a first Encounters selection and an Oscar.
He was back in Bristol in person in 2026 for a masterclass with Nida Manzoor, and Vote Gavin Lyle screened in competition at the same edition. Still entering the competition, still coming back to the festival.
